8 Summer Moving Tips to Beat the Heat and the Stress

Summer is one of the most popular times to move and for good reason. The weather’s warm, school’s out, and schedules tend to be a little more flexible. But with that sunshine comes heat, high demand, and a few unexpected moving challenges.

Whether you're moving into your dream home or helping a friend make the transition, here are 8 summer moving tips to help make it all a little easier.

1. Book Your Movers Early
Summer is peak moving season, so movers (and moving trucks!) can book up fast. If you’re hiring professionals, try to schedule at least 4–6 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date and time.

2. Avoid Midday Moves
If possible, schedule your move for early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the hottest part of the day. You’ll stay cooler, and so will your movers.

3. Stay Hydrated
Keep water bottles handy for you, your family, and your movers. Dehydration and heat exhaustion can sneak up fast when you're lifting, packing, and on the go.

4. Pack with the Heat in Mind
Not everything loves the heat. Be cautious with candles, electronics, and anything that could melt or warp. Pack those items separately and transport them in an air-conditioned vehicle if possible.

5. Dress for Comfort
Lightweight, breathable clothing and closed-toe shoes are your best friends on moving day. Trust us, flip-flops and heavy jeans won’t do you any favours.

6. Be Strategic with Utilities
Schedule your utilities to turn on before you arrive at your new home. No one wants to move into a house with no A/C, especially after a full day of heavy lifting.

7. Keep a “First Night” Box Handy
Pack a box with the essentials you'll need that first night. Things like toiletries, a change of clothes, snacks, chargers, and maybe even a fan. You’ll be glad you did.

8. Don’t Forget Your Furry Friends
Moving can be stressful for pets, especially in the heat. Make sure they have access to cool water, shade, and a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle.

With a little planning and a lot of water, a summer move can be smooth and (almost) stress-free. If you ever need trusted moving companies, contractors, or even help staging your current space, our team is always here to help.

Happy moving and welcome home!
